Substitute Teacher

Primary Purpose: Effective substitute teachers take the responsibility to ensure that the educational process is not interrupted when the regular teacher/paraprofessional is absent, and provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences in the subject area as described in the lesson plans prepared by the classroom teacher. Qualifications: MINIMUM: 21 years old Education/Certification:
High School Diploma or GED
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Ability to work well with children of all ages
Ability to instruct students and manage their behaviors as described in the Substitute Teacher Handbook
Ability to communicate effectively
Experience
Some experience working with children
Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the administration may find appropriate and acceptable Fingerprinting: State law requires that all substitute teachers have their fingerprints completed prior to entering a classroom. You are only required to have you fingerprints done for one district in the State of Texas. This process will take place after you receive your Fast Pass and complete the required process. Red Oak ISD requires a clear criminal background. If selected, you will be emailed a link that includes new hire paperwork and training videos. This orientation is required prior to substituting in our district. Once the online orientation is complete, a meeting will be schedule to complete the substitute process. Video Acknowledgement Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Assist in guiding the learning process toward the achievement of educational goals established for each student.
Provide instruction individually or to small groups of students.
Assist students in interpreting directions.
Assist in maintaining a neat, orderly classroom
Assists in maintaining proper discipline at all times.
Review and summarize lesson plans for students.
Supervise student's individual study through such activities as repeating instructions, answering questions, operating of audio-visual equipment, and checking answers.
Tutor individual students and assist in improving student skills.
Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, materials, and facilities.
Demonstrate behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible.
Be prompt in attendance to assigned duties.
Perform such other duties and assume such other responsibilities as may, from time to time, be assigned.
Demonstrate the district's established quality customer service standards.
Equipment Used:
Copier, computer, and audiovisual equipment.
Customer Care Skills:
Provide professional communication with students, parents, community members, staff, and other professionals at all times.
Use proper phone etiquette at all times.
Ensure superior customer care skills are used via eye contact, facial expressions, voice inflections, body language, and an attitude of "going the extra mile" for others.
Ensure all requests for information are dealt with in an appropriate timeframe.
Create and maintain welcoming, service-oriented environment toward all internal and external customers.

Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including computer and peripherals
Posture: Prolonged sitting, standing, occasional bending/stooping/kneeling/squatting/pushing/pulling and twisting

Lifting: Regular light lifting and carrying (15 pounds or less)
Environment: May work prolonged or irregular hours

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
